Unlike Radar signals, which are highly reflective, laser signals have very poor reflective characteristics. Many of today's laser detectors do not have the high sensitivity necessary to detect laser within a large "field of view." The Vector 940 incorporates Beltronics' best laser detection, which uses twin laser ports to detect energy far outside the main laser beam--including off-axis signals--providing a 360-degree field of view. The Buyer
I had many cheap, less than $100, detectors in the past. They were all junk. You get what you paid for...beeping here and there, anywhere....no police on site. But I just did not want to spend $200 or over for decent, according to reviews, detectors....although I did buy Escort 9500 for close to $300 since I happened to have money that time. Again, major disappointment.....JUNK! worked like the cheap detectors. I got rid of it in Ebay. Then I researched and researched for a $100 or so detectors with many positive reviews. Then I decided to take a chance on this Beltronics V940. Seems like old technology..being out for awhile...but the reviews are pretty good. Beeping here and there, everywhere is gone....too quiet...wondered if this detector was working. After a month or so later, a voice came out from the unit saying..K band...K band while driving on the freeway....Ah! at last! the unit is working. I did not care much of K band so I ignored. Then another weeks of quiet driving...wondering if this unit broke. Then today while speeding on the street....Laser...Laser...almost gave me a heart attack! I braked to slow down..then few seconds later, again...Laser...Laser... I looked for police, but couldn't locate police...continued to drive at normal speed for 1/4 miles or so then I saw motorcycle police hiding under the shaded tree on private lot, aiming laser gun directly at me...Wow! this unit worked!...After all the detectors I tried, this actually worked....knock on wood! No ticket...I'm very happy

My boyfriend purchased me a different radar detector which wouldn't stick to the windshield since day 1 because of the lack of quality and sturdiness. This specific radar detector seems to be well-made and is quite accurate given external conditions such as alarm systems, sensors from other vehicles, etc). I purchased two of these radar detectors so far...about to purchase another one for myself. Each person I've bought this for has loved it and said it has saved their butts! I definitely recommend this radar detector and it's not too extremely expensive.

On a 800 mile round trip across Oklahoma to Kansas Memorial day weekend the v940 gave me more than enough warning that smokeys were waiting. Great range, basic features, Awsome value.

I was very satisfied with my V940 until there was no longer any voice alerts which could not be corrected, even by re-setting the unit's programming.
I called tech support and they told me I could send it in for repair at a cost of $89.95 which would include a 6 month warranty.
I ended up purchasing a new one after only 3 years use.
I have had a number of other radar detectors from other companies that I never had any problem with.
Instead of sending the old one for repair, I decided to buy a new one, although I did not believe I should have after only 3 years of use.
I am hoping this new one lasts longer than only 3 years, if it doesn't, I will not buy another one.
